SPIN were invited to support a series of symposia across East Africa in 2011 (Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Mombassa). The driving force behind this initiative is Dr Thikra Sharif, a Pain Management Consultant at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi. She has an ambitious seven point plan for developing pain services across the region which SPIN is pleased to support. Over 300 attendees at the meetings included a range of doctors, nurses and physiotherapists where workshops and interactive sessions were particularly well received.

Deep Bhayani was sponsored to visit the UK for higher pain training in 2013. Deep is the lead physiotherapist in the Pain Service at the Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi. SPIN and the AKH worked collaboratively to sponsor a two week placement to Bath and London to experience the different services on offer and develop his knowledge of the multidisciplinary approach. He really appreciated this unique opportunity, and commented "I found it a very good learning experience and, moreover, this visit improved my understanding of Pain Management ".

There were further visits to Rwanda and Zambia towards the end of 2013.
